This research investigated the carbon dioxide-nitrogen separation efficiency in new nano-zeolite structures
named gas hydrates, both for syngas purification as a feed gas for petrochemical plants and for the
sequestration potential of carbon dioxide. In a series of experiments simulated under ocean sediment
environments, the biosurfactants emulsion and Rhamnolipid showed favorable catalysis of carbon dioxide
hydrate formation. This research showed that a potentially cost effective hydrate separation technology
applied to nitrogen-carbon dioxide gas, representative of a flue gas, can be improved by adding surfactants as
zeolite motivators. It was found that biosurfactants give some beneficial effect on carbon dioxide hydrate
formation and might be used to assist carbon dioxide sequestration or to displace natural gas from hydrates
already. Our experiments show that a carbon dioxide-philic surfactant for zeolite stimulation, was found that
dramatically improved carbon dioxide capture from a gas mixture (flue gas or syngas) in a carbon dioxide-gas
hydrate process.
