The paper presents the application of DSM
(Design Structural Matrix) as an alternative viewpoint of
conventional project management methods especially for
managing complicated products such as design and manufacture
aero pumps. In comparison with other modeling methods the
first advantage of DSM is a graphical representation of a
system/product. In fact it provides a simple, compact, visual, and
scalable and readable of system's data. Conventional tools such
as CPM (Critical Path Method) and PERT (Program Evaluation
and Review Technique) are not suitable for representing
information flow, because interdependent activities can not be
modeled. DSM is a highly flexible tool to model interdependent
activities (or loops); by this model we simply view process in a
picture. In the paper in the regard of understanding and
decreasing complexity in aero pumps discussed. By putting pump
elements in DSM format and formation this model as visual
representation, gives better understanding of system complexity,
that the process is easily visible in a picture. Besides the ability of
DSM in visualize and model and also solve the problems of design
have been considered. In the paper aero pump system
decomposed to subsystems and elements then by categorizing and
analysis and use of software PSM32, the principal circuits are
identified and all interactions through moving the rows and
columns transferred to main sub diagonal. As a result the
elements in one cluster are identified and by tearing the optimal
interactions are determined for element inside the cluster.
