The Analysis of Style in Persian translations of Pink Floyd Lyrics

From the late 20th century, music found its way to people everyday life in many countries. Western societies, due to their prosperity and technology, could convey their music as a part of their culture to many points of the world. Alongside with the essence of music itself as a fine art, lyrics found its way through musical elements all around the world. This deployment of Foreign lyrics in vast variety of nations, commentated translators to make renderings of lyrics in order to make the piece of art more clear and understandable between two communities specially with cultural gap. However, these cultural gaps in linguistic or non-linguistic elements sometimes cause problems in the process of translations which can harm the aesthetic aspects of arts. In this paper researchers tried to recognize the factors which cause inconsistency between style of original lyrics and its translations and also find out which translation strategies increase the rate of this distortion. The framework of the study was translation quality assessment proposed by House. The strategies were also analyzed based on Vinay Dorbelnet model. The corpus of the study included Pink Floyd lyrics as a representative of successful popular lyrics as well as two different translations. The results revealed that most of the distortions were in the change of style and literal translation caused the majority of errors.
