English is the language of the tourism industry and the discourse of tourism has overshadowed other conceptualizations of the tourism phenomenon. Tour operators, marketers, and advertisers should be aware of the sensible use of implicature in the language of tourism to make people potential customers and persuade them to turn to real ones. The purpose of this paper was to gain more insight into the role of discourse, rhetoric, semantic and pragmatic features in tourism promotional document by reviewing recent research on tourism promotion. The study carried out through searching related articles using keywords such as tourism discourse, role of rhetoric, language of tourism, semantics and pragmatics. The conclusion of this research reveals that English as the language of tourism has become an important part of tourism industry and a manipulative and powerful tool. Through incorporating certain discourse, rhetoric, semantic and pragmatic features into the promotional materials such as words and images, marketers can attract potential customers to buy a holiday away from home. Moreover, the impact of tourism advertisements depends on the agreement between various semantic and pragmatic elements.
