Today, hydrodynamic cavitation (HC) is a new and effective method for industrial wastewaters treatment. Simplicity in reactor design, high industrial scale performance potential, use of clean energy source and no side pollutants, are considered as the important advantages of this technology. In this study, first, the general mechanism of the cavitation process, the concept of the cavitation number, the effective parameters on process improvement and the various dynamic models of bubbles have been investigated. Then, the types of existing cavitation reactors in terms of removal efficiency, type and amount of energy consumption, process capacity and operation time were compared. In order to improve the process efficiency in difficult operating and the possibility of industrial scale implementation, the combination of other methods with the HC reactor was investigated. Investigations show that the combination of venturi tube reactor with Advanced Fenton Processes (AFP) and adding hydrogen peroxide has the highest efficiency in terms of removing pollutants and energy consumption.
