Various plants and industries that use Fuels such as coal, oil and etc produce sulfur dioxide gas in the combustion process. The produced sulfur dioxide gas by industries can cause irreparable difficulties in the health of humans and environment. The entry of this gas into the atmosphere, in addition to creat diseases such as respiratory disorders and cardiovascular disease, can cause acid rain formation and thus leads to acid deposition in the environment. Hence, researchers have sought to find best-performing methods to remove this pollutant. One of the most innovative and highly effective methods for removing this pollutant is the use of rotating packed bed reactors. The rotating packed bed (RPB) technology has been widely explored in nanoparticle preparation, separation process intensification and reaction process intensification. In this research, a general description about the performance of this method on removing this pollutant and the advantages of this method in removal of this pollution on other method are explained., As well as a review of previous experimental research and it is also discussed on the role of changing various operating parameters such rotating speed, gas flow rate, liquid flow rate, SO2 inlet concentration, total salt concentration, and alkalinity and etc. in increasing the efficiency of this type of reactors.
