Nowadays azo dyes are the most commonly dyes used in many different industrial applications. These synthetic dyes can have severe negative effects such as their mutagenic and carcinogenic effects on living organisms. Next to industrial process, more than 15% of these dyes are released into wastewater. Thus, a big challenge is removing them from wastewater. Herein, we produced a green biopolymer based on whey protein concentrate for remediation of azo dyes from wastewater. The percentage of decolorization using this polymer was 70-85% for Direct violet 51, Bismarck brown R, Congo red, Chrysoidine and Acid red 88; and for Reactive orange, Reactive black and acid red 114 was more than 55%. This polymer can subsequently be removed from wastewater easily after adsorption process.
