Using Phycocyanin solution in a double layer photobioreactor for enhancement of microalgal growth

In this work, the ability of Phycocyanin solution for conversion of green light in a flat panel photobioreactor was investigated. For this purpose, a double layer flat panel photobioreactor was constructed. In one layer microalgae Chlorella sp. was cultivated and other layer was filled with Phycocyanin solution. The solution was extracted from Spirulina platensis. Then, the photobioreactor was placed under 490 μmol photons m−2s−1 at 27 ± 1°C. Results showed that biomass concentration because of using Phycocyanin as a converter layer in the flat photobioreactor was increased up to 23%. Also, content of chlorophyll a and b at last day of experiment was reported.
