Coronal stops in Persian: An electropalatographic study

The place of the articulation of coronal stops has always been the subject of debate in Persian phonetics. Some researchers believe that [t] and [d] are dental stops, while other scholars consider them as alveolars. The aim of this study is to determine the accurate articulation place of [t] and [d] in Persian using electropalatography. The tongue-palate contact of one female Persian speaker was recorded. Analysis of the data shows that [d] is a denti-alveolar stop, whereas [t] is an alveolar stop. This result is also reflected in a significant difference between CA value for the two sounds.
