Abstract This study aims to investigate the effect of consciousness raising vocabulary on learning difficult words such as depth and breadth. To reveal the effects, previous studies are viewed. Several studies examined the effects of different types of instruction on language such as vocabulary learning. This paper gathered information in terms of importance of vocabulary in language competence, explicit/implicit distinction and two dimensions of explicitness and elaboration. Explicitness is somehow related to consciousness which is about mind, therefore it is not observable. This can easily affect learners’ attention for something happen in or out of mind. Based on previous studies, the effect of consciousness raising on language learning such as vocabularies (difficult vocabularies) has been approved.
