Cyanobacteria are important compo nent of phytoplankton communities which occur in almost every water bodies. Presence of cyanobacteria in different ecosystems has effects on water quality and biological communities. Some imp acts of Cyanobacteria are oxygen imbalance and adverse effects of their toxins. Cyanobacterial comm unity of Iran water bodies still have not been extensively studied. In addition, climate conditions of central Asia promote their distribution. The aims of the proposed project are analysis cyano bacterial diversity and dominant genera of Tehran drinking water resources including three main dams, Latyan, Taleghan and AmirKabir. Sampling fr om selected areas was carried out in two sampling phase in 2018. The mean temperature, pH and Light intensity were 18.33 °C, 8.33 and 57500 LUX respectively in September and 13°C, 6.74 and 39200 in October. Samples pH was high er in first sampling phase which indicates higher presence of Cyanobacteria. Surface water samples transported to the laboratory and filtered aseptically through 0.8µm pore sizemembran e filters. Filters were put into enriched mediu m contain C6 and BG-11 media with Cyclohexi mide and Nistatin to prevent growth of fungi and eukaryotic algae. After visible growth of Cyanobacteria samples were microscopically analyse d and then inoculated several times into solid a nd liquid BG-11 media in order to eliminate fungus contamination, purification of cyanobac teria and decrease level of heterotrophic conta mination. Different kinds of filamentous Cyanobacteria were found which belong to the gene ra Phormidium, Oscillatoria, Microcoleus, Lept olyngbya and pseudoanabaena based on mo rphological keys on Bergey s Manual of Sy stematic Bacteriology. In addition, one unicellular Cyanobacteria similar to Synechocystis was found in all samples. Further molecular analysis is still needed in order to find type of species an d strains of isolated genera.
