Microscopic algae are the oldest inhabitants of the oceans and fresh waters, living in a single-cellular, colony or filamentous enviro nment in salty, sweet waters, rivers and wetlands, and it is estimated that more than 100,000 spec ies exist of which about 30,000 have been detected so far in the world.Plankton survey of Persian Gulf was conducted Hormozgan, Bush ehr and Khoozestan provinces during 4 seasons in 1998. In general 244 species were Identified in Iranian area of Persian Gulf that consisted of 124 species of Bacillarophyceae, 114 sp ecies of Dinophyceae, 5 species of Cyanop hyceae, species of Chrysophyceae and 1 species of Euglenophyceae. However the spatial distribution of the phytoplankton (diversity, composition, and cell abundance) was described in relation to local environmental conditions a cross the Persian Gulf, the Strait of Hormuz, and the Sea of Oman based on data of ROPME cruise of winter 2006. The 376 phytoplankto n taxa identified in these waters represented a diverse composition of species with a prevale nce of dinoflagellates and diatoms. Microalgae have many applications in different industries such as hygiene industry, Medical industry, Cosmetic industry, energy production, ,Agricult ure, Food industry and etc. microalgae have been used for green energy and fuel production, phytoremediation of waste water sewage, production of many different drugs and additives such as vitamins, antibiotics, antioxidants, proteins and different metabolites. In general microalgae based industries have produced a new revolution and insight in green industry applications.
