Due to the importance of rolling bearings as the most widely used machine elements, it is necessary to establish a suitable condition monitoring procedure to prevent catastrophic damages. It is therefore, important to monitor the condition of the bearings and to know the severity of the defects before they would cause serious catastrophic damages. This paper describes a method for detecting localized bearing defects based on spectrum analysis. Bearing race and ball faults have been detected by using Fast Fourier Transform (FFT). The Fast Fourier Transform (FFT) can detect the frequencies of damages which appeared during the vibration analysis of a ball bearing. Vibration signals from ball bearings having a defect (defects created artificially) on inner race and two type of fault on balls have been considered for analysis for comparison with healthy one.
