Methylene Violet Bernthsen (MV, Fig. 1) is a neutral synthetic dye that belongs to the family of phenothiazines. Several biological and technological applications for this dye have been reported. Methylene violet is known for its photosensitizing properties for singlet oxygen (1O2) generation upon visible-light irradiation and various examples of its potential use in photodynamic inactivation of microorganisms and for photomedicinal purposes were reported. In this work we experimentally studied the absorption spectra of MV in diverse-concentration urea solutions.
