Drug-eluting stents have developed the treatment of coronary artery blockage. These small medical devices have attracted much interest over the past decade. Drug eluting stent designs and flux of drug release to arterial wall remains unclear. A new free drug mass transfer approach has been formulated and applied for predicting the amounts of drug in the tissue. A three dimensional cylindrical mathematical model has been considered. The transport equations take into account diffusion and convection together. Furthermore, a reversible binding in the arterial wall was established. The new approach has two benefits over the previous free drug mass transfer model: satisfying mass transfer consistency and slightly better data regression. Finally, the model was solved by numerical simulation and results were compared with in vivo experimental data
