The use of tea waste (TW) and NaOH-modified tea waste (NMTW) for the removal of basic blue 9 (BB9) from aqueous solutions was studided in details. The equilibrium data were analyzed by Langmuir, Freundlich, Temkin and Redlich-Peterson isotherm models and pseudo-first order and pseudo-second order kinetic models. The experimental results demonstrated that BB9 can be effectively removed from aqueous solution by both the adsorbent and the adsorption capacity of the NMTW was found to be greater than the TW. Various thermodynamic parameters, such as ΔG°, ΔH°, ΔS° and Ea, have been calculated. The findings of this investigation suggested that physical sorption plays a role in controlling the sorption rate.
