Various SAPO-34 loaded polycarbonate mixed matrix membranes or MMM (5-30%) were prepared by solvent evaporation technique and characterized by SEM analysis. SEM images revealed acceptable polymer-zeolite morphology in 5 and 10% membranes. Further addition of zeolite resulted in voids in some regions of polymer-zeolite interface and zeolite agglomeration. Single gas permeability measurements of CO2, CH4 and N2 were performed at 5 bar pressure at feed side and room temperature to investigate separation properties of membranes. Incorporation of zeolite in membranes increased CO2 permeability but decreased N2 and CH4 permeability.MMMs exhibited higher CO2/CH4 and CO2/N2 selectivities in comparison with pure PC membrane. The PC/SAPO-34 MMM with 30% zeolite showed a CO2/CH4 selectivity of 100%higher than pure PC membrane while CO2 permeability enhanced to 15% and CH4 permeability dropped to 40%. The gas separation performance of pure PC membrane was improved by incorporation of SAPO-34 zeolite particles into PC matrix.
