The intervertebral disc acts as a shock absorber in the spine, endures the biomechanical forces, and reduces the possibility of injuries due to its viscoelastic properties. Many studies have been performed on the mechanical analysis of the segment under the static loading, but little is known about its mechanical behavior under high loading rates. This study investigated the mechanical response of the segment under vertical impact load, corresponding to a force caused during a fall. The segments were subjected to vertical impact loads at temperature of 27° C and 37° C in both dry and humid conditions. The results of the impact test were compared with the static loading results.
