Graphene, the 2D allotrope of carbon, among its unique electrical and mechanical properties, proved to be a perfect barrier layer, unless the presence of structural defects in its structure. Fabrication of graphene membranes by successive transfer of large graphene layers onto a polymeric substrate presents a new type of membranes which could be used in gas separation applications. In this work, the high-quality mono-layer graphene was synthesized on the catalytic copper substrate by using the CVD method. Three different methods were investigated to transfer the graphene from the copper foil to the polymeric substrate. These methods are comprised of the direct method, the indirect method with the aid of PMMA layer and the spin-coating method. Our results showed that the sticking of the graphene and the polymeric substrate by spin-coating of a PVDF interlayer generates the highest selectivity in a mono-layer graphene membrane. But in the multi-layer graphene membranes, the direct transfer method shows the best performance.
