In this study, activated carbons are synthesized from ziziphus spina-christi, a cheap, widely found in Khouzestan and bio-based precursors, through chemical activation. Specificly, the precusure was treated with nitric acid and phosphoric acid to synthsized two differnt adsorbens (ZNAC and ZPAC, respectively). The activated carbons were characterized by scanning electron microscope, fourier transform infrared (FT-IR) analysis. Surface area, mean pore diameter and total pore volume of the adsorbents are determined by N2 adsorption. The adsorbents produced have a surface area of 319m2/g and 518m2/g. The synthsized activated carbons were used for adsorption separation of ethanol from aqueous solution. Adsorption equilibrium data fitted with langmuir isotherm. Results shows that the adsorption of ethanol with these activated carbons is an effictive method for separation of ethanol from water.
