Validity and reliability of the “ tendency of preschool children to TV ” questionnaire

Aim and Background: The aim of the present study was to investigate the validity and reliability of the questionnaire of tendency of preschool children to TV from the perspective of parents. Methods and Materials: In this cross-sectional study, 114 mothers of the children in the age 2-4 y from kindergartens of Tehran were studied (summer 2014). The random cluster sampling method was used. After the designing of 23 questions in two subscales, the validity (content and construct) and reliability (test-retest and internal consistency) of questionnaire was examined. Data analysis was performed with SPSS version 21. Results: The content validity of the 11 questions were desired, that the following questions were more assessed and the remaining were excluded. To assess the construct validity, correlation between the score of items and total scores were calculated, which were satisfactory (0.566 and 0.685). The validity of the questionnaire was evaluated by two methods: test-retest and Cronbach’s alpha. Intra-class correlation coefficient was between 0.796 and 0.889 and Cronbachʹs alpha was between 0.887 and 0.941. Conclusion: Overall it can be said that questionnaire of “the tendency of children to TV from the perspective of a parents” with 11 items and two subscales, watching TV by children and its impact on them in sight of parents is valid. According to this study this questionnaire can be used in researches related to children and TV.
