Asphaltene is the high molecular weight component of some crud oils which is dissolved in them normally; as changing
the situation, Asphaltene separates from the petroleum and deposits. Asphaltene precipitation from reservoir fluids
during oil production is a serious problem because it can result in plugging of the formation, wellbore and production
facilities.
The consequence of Asphaltene deposition in a formation may be the reduction of permeability and consequently
reduction of well production. A number of mechanisms are involved in the process of Asphaltene deposition, for
instance surface deposition, obstruction of the holes, and Asphaltene absorption.Considering the existing Asphaltene
problem in many of the oilfields in Iran, the importance of exploration and understanding of the mechanisms of the
Asphaltene deposition consequences in reservoirs and its influence on production is strongly felt. Also by understanding
the situation of Asphaltene deposition and avoiding it, its deposition can be blocked.
The paper wish to present, a literature of Asphaltene structure and the methods for its measuring, thermodynamic
models and phase diagrams has been studied, and the mechanism for Asphaltene deposition in the permeable mass in
the reservoir has been simulated.
