Lattice Boltzmann simulation of flow inside a packed bed of spherical agglomerates is presented. Contrary to
the other works in this field, the effects of caged spheres inside the larger ones are considered. An algorithm for
generating bi disperse random sphere packings of any ranges of sizes, along with a method for detecting caged particles
are presented. The air flow through such packed beds is simulated using a lattice Boltzmann method. In addition, the
effects of moving particles inside the packed bed have been considered.
It is shown that the lattice Boltzmann method is an accurate and powerful method in determining fluid flows in packed
beds with locally unfixed particles.
The presented model finds a vast range of applications in chemical engineering specially, in designing and analyzing
Oxygen/Inert Gas Generating Systems (OGGS/IGGS).
