In the present study, a comprehensive review of the bio-applications and properties of 58S bioactive glass (58S BG) with a composition of 60% SiO2 - 36% CaO - 4% P2O5 as a coating on different substrates was performed. The best bioactive behavior among bioceramics is related to BG. BG has the ability to bond directly with bone tissue and facilitate the repair and regeneration of bone tissue. One of the limitations of BG is its low mechanical properties, which has led researchers to utilize these materials as bioactive coatings. In addition, the use of BG composite coatings with additive components can enhance the mechanical properties of the coating and increase the biocompatibility of the substrate. Coating techniques, In-vitro bioactivity and biocompatibility of 58S BG on substrates applied in tissue engineering are among the issues that have been investigated in this review work. Based on the collected results, it can be stated that 58S BG and its composite coatings can be considered as promising options to enhance the biocompatibility, bioactivity and mechanical properties of the substrates used in tissue engineering applications.
