Abstract In recent years, the uncontrolled and unbalanced expansion of urban areas and the excessive concentration of population in urban areas have faced the continuity of human life in various dimensions with natural and man-made hazards. In this regard, the use of new approaches in promoting spatial desirability can increase the field of providing necessary services to citizens in spatial and physical limits. Smart cities are known as a leading symbol in the field of urban studies of the new century, and the biophilic urban planning approach is one of the most important of these approaches, which takes into account the presence of nature in the city on the one hand and the deep sensory interactions of citizens with nature and culture based on On the other hand, on the other hand, it has been raised as a basic principle in planning in recent years. However, there is still no specific comprehensive framework for evaluating this approach on a macro scale in Iran. In this article, an attempt is made to identify the criteria for creating smart cities based on biophilic design components by first examining the theoretical foundations related to smart cities. And the difference between this research and other researches is in identifying the criteria for the creation of smart cities based on biophilic components. The current research method is descriptive-analytical based on the collection of information from library sources and is applied in the research group in terms of its purpose. The research results show that biophilic urban planning is a multi dimensional approach in the form of social life components, economic dynamics, green transportation, environmental sustainability and efficient urban management
