This paper examines the intersection of citizen science and smart city initiatives, highlighting the role of community involvement in urban development. Citizen science involves volunteers in scientific research, which has grown within smart cities—areas where technology is used to improve urban life. This collaboration offers a chance for residents to engage in data collection, analysis, and application to address urban challenges. The study defines both concepts, showing their benefits when combined, and reviews case studies from around the world where citizen science has aided smart city goals like environmental monitoring, urban planning, and public health. It emphasizes the technology that enables tshis partnership, including apps, sensors, and platforms that allow efficient data gathering and sharing. Despite the potential, the paper identifies challenges such as data quality, privacy concerns, and keeping participants engaged. It also considers policy and governance needed for sustainable integration of citizen science into smart cities, advocating for inclusive participation, data transparency, and collaboration between government, scientists, and citizens. The conclusion suggests that effective use of this collaboration could democratize urban science and technology, leading to more inclusive, responsive, and sustainable cities. It calls for a reevaluation of citizen roles in urban development, indicating future directions for the convergence of citizen science and smart cities.
