The reliability of the distribution system is improved by the placement of protective devices at some costs which is a concern. In this paper, the optimal number and locations of re-closer for a 58 bus system are determined to maximize the revenue at minimum costs. The genetic algorithm (GA), particle swarm optimization (PSO), and Mayfly algorithm (MA) are utilized. Reliability indices such as SAIFI, SAIDI, CAIDI, ASAI AENS before and after the placement of re-closers are assessed. The results obtained indicate that all three algorithms can yield valuable results, however, PSO executes it much faster with a lower computation load.
