The reliable operation of overhead crane systems depends on a consistent power supply, with voltage profile maintenance being crucial for sustained productivity. This paper addresses challenges related to voltage profiles in the power supply systems of overhead cranes in steel manufacturing plants, introducing a comprehensive methodology for optimal capacitor placement and sizing. The unique characteristics of overhead crane systems in steelmaking, involving movable loads, distinguish them from typical systems studied in previous research. The proposed methodology includes modeling the power system components, such as power cables, power rail, and overhead cranes, using impedance and load factor considerations. The objective function aims to enhance the voltage profile by maximizing the minimum per-unit supply voltage for different crane positions, with optimization variables for capacitor placement and sizing. The optimization process utilizes the Genetic Algorithm to solved the numerical optimization problem and ETAP software validates the optimization results
