Nowadays, Lithium-ion batteries, as one of the most advanced and suitable rechargeable batteries, have received attention in recent years. Polymeric binders play a key role in maintaining the mechanical integrity of the electrodes and contribute significantly to improving the cycle life. In this work, to increase the performance of lithium-ion batteries, a sulfonated PVDF copolymer was synthesized as a polymer binder through ATRP method. In order to ensure the accuracy of sulfonated PVDF synthesis, FTIR analysis was performed. Also, in order to investigate the electrochemical performance of the synthesized sulfonated PVDF binder, its cyclic performance was investigated for up to 300 cycles. Investigations showed that after 300 cycles, sulfonated PVDF kept its discharge capacity constant at a 1C rate of 90 mAhg−1 and its capacity retention efficiency was 100%. The results showed that the sulfonated PVDF copolymer in this work can increase the efficiency of lithium-ion batteries in the coming decades.
