Cavity solitons have attracted a lot of attention in nonlinear optics due to their potential ability to be used in all-optical logic circuits as information bits. Self-pulsing dynamics of cavity solitons can add new features to these optical logic elements, such as excitable and collective behavior. Semiconductor lasers with saturable absorbers is one of the suitable platforms to realize such dynamics for cavity solitons, which is used in this article to study the switching conditions and also the dynamics of self-pulsing cavity solitons.
