Chaotic dynamics and rogue waves in injected VCSELs

Injected semiconductor lasers exhibit different dynamics before and after the injection locking point due to the presence of sustained and damped relaxation oscillations. This paper studies the dynamical properties of the so-called Hopf instability domain before the injection locking point in broad-area semiconductor lasers. It is shown that such dynamics leads to extended chaos and that these behaviors contribute in formation of rogue waves.
