This paper presents a study on two important different properties self-cleaning and anti-bacterial of a synthesized silver doped titanium dioxide and its preparation methods for ceramic applications. The silver can be incorporated by irradiating the reaction mixture during preparation to reduce silver ion to silver metal or by direct calcination of the sol–gel material. The efficiency of materials was examined using summer sunlight. In this case, the addition of increasing amounts of silver significantly increases the rate of degradation of a sample increasing the rate of degradation from 0.05 min−1 for TiO2 to 0.33 min−1 for 1mol% Ag– TiO2. This is attributed to the increasing visible absorption capacity due to the presence of silver nanoparticles. Scanning electron microscopy showed that the silver is homogeneously dispersed throughout the material and reduce particle sizes. Antibacterial test was studied on both gram+ and gram_ bacteria: E. Coli (ATCC: 25922), P. aeruginosa (ATCC: 27853) and S. aureus that results show excellent Anti-bacterial activity of synthesized 0.1 mole silver doped titanium dioxide pigment calcined at 600 ◦C and reduction atmosphere. –- .
