This article addresses the problem of controlling hysteretic structural systems like base isola-tion systems for mitigating the effects relating to the earthquakes or other vibrations. The Bouc-Wen model represents the hysteresis behavior of the considered systems. This article shows the passivity of the standard Bouc-Wen hysteretic systems. Then passivity property is used to design a passivity-based control (PBC) with closed loop stability and necessary per-formances. In addition, the effectiveness of the proposed control law has been shown in re-ducing displacement, velocity and acceleration responses of the hysteretic structural system in comparison to the applied adaptive backstepping control (BSC) by considering simulation results and performance evaluation criteria.
