Extraction and application of eco-friendly natural dye obtained from iranian marigold flower on woolen yarns

Natural dyes from plants have been given much interest in recent years due to the threat and harmful effects raised by synthetic dyes and environmental awareness created by researchers. Marigold flower has a rich source of natural dye. In this study, an experiment was conducted to investigate the use of an aqueous extract isolated from Iranian marigold flower as natural dye. The dye potential of the extract was evaluated by dyeing woolen yarns. The effectual parameters in dyeing such as dying methods, mordant and acid types on the shades of woolen yarns were investigated. Also, the wash fastness of this natural dye was evaluated for different mordant. The results indicate that various colors were obtained by using different mordant. In addition, all the mordant except alum and zinc chloride showed good to excellent fastness to washing. Alum and zinc chloride offered fair to good fastness. -
