A new method based on mixture of colorants for characterization of colorants in transparent media was developed. This method is based on generalization of Walowit-McCarty method. In order to compare this method with single colorant characterization method, two data sets were selected. The first data set was from SCHOTT filters and was used to study the effect of experimental noise and interaction between colorants on absorption coefficient. The experimental noise and interaction effect were simulated by two simplified models. The second data set was selected from some transparent solutions and was used to assess the effect of overlapping spectra on absorption coefficient. The results showed that the mixture of colorants method is more accurate than one colorant method for determination of absorption coefficient.
