Chitosan-cyanuric chloride (CSCY), as a reactive derivative of chitosan, was used in surface modification of wool in the concentration range of 0-20% owf. The impact of modification on cochineal dye up-take on wool was then investigated. The results showed that only 2%CSCY was quite effective in improvement of dye uptake. The minimum modification induced color change was observed with 2%CSCY. Only, the wool treated with 20%CSCY showed slightly higher dye up-take than 2%CSCY, but instead, appreciable changes in color parameters were observed in this concentration. Hence, considering color change as an important factor, 2%CSCY can be used as the most appropriate concentration for wool modification in dyeing with cochineal dye.
