Binder plays a very important role in determining the physical and thermochemical properties of fuel in composite solid propellants, so it needs to be selected as appropriate. Also a suitable binder is capable of carrying the filler, favorable mechanical properties and process ability. Thatʹs why the researchers of defense industry are looking for a new energetic binder having good mechanical properties in order to increase propellants’ performance. GAP as a new type of high-energy binder has been developed for use in solid propellant. In addition to use in high-performance propellants, this polymer can be used in producing propellants with low vulnerability (LOVA) and clean propellants. The desirable mechanical properties of polypropylene glycol and energetic properties of Glycidyl azide polymer can be used together by the synthesis of energetic GAP-PPG binder. This article discusses how to modify Glycidyl azide polymer (GAP) binder with polypropylene glycol (PPG) as a new energetic binder.
