This paper presents the establishment of a novel
linearized Phillips-Heffron model of a power
system installed HVAC parallel-connected with a
High Voltage Direct Current based voltage source
converter (VSC HVDC). The use of the
supplementary controllers of a VSC HVDC to
damp low frequency oscillations in a weakly
connected system is proposed. The potential of
VSC HVDC supplementary controllers to enhance
the dynamic stability is evaluated by measuring
the electromechanical controllability through the
singular value decomposition (SVD) analysis. The
supplementary controller is designed based on
system state space equations to obtain controlling
signal. In this paper a proposed neural controller
is used to product a supplementary controlling
signal for stabilizing and oscillation damping to
overcome the drawbacks of conventional lead-lag
controllers.
