Reducing the dynamic response of the structures subjected to seismic motion is one of the important challenges of the earthquake engineers. To deal with this issue, the tendency to use active and semi-active control strategies is widely increased in recent decades. However, un-known damage in structural elements, uncertainty in the modeling process of structures, partial or total failure of the system, cause to doubt on the reliability of these strategies. Thus, adaptive control strategies are selected due to adaptive mechanism to reset their gains and control pa-rameters in case of uncertainties by a closed-loop action to have optimum performance.
In the current study, the performance of Simple Adaptive Control Method (SACM) is in-vestigated to control the response of structure with Magneto-rheological (MR) dampers as semi active devices. The system is evaluated in presence of unknown structural damage and fault in sensors.
The results show that SACM can effectively improve the performance of damaged building in faulty measurement condition and mitigate the damage impact on response of structure by MR dampers as semi-active devices
