Indentation test is one of the indirect methods of estimating UCS value. In this research, the effect of surrounding material on the measured strength values has been investigated by conducting about 300 rounds of indentation test on shale particles which were prepared with the same shape and diameter entrenched in three different surrounding materials (resin epoxy, resin polyester and stone adhesive). It was found that there is a direct relationship between indentation strength value and surrounding material strength
