Cost Effectiveness of Condition Monitoring Systems: Case Study in Zariniran Porcelain Industries

Companies are shifting from traditional corrective and preventive maintenance program to condition based maintenance (CBM) to reduce the maintenance cost and unnecessary maintenance schedules. Condition monitoring (CM) is an innovative approach to maintenance which holds the potential for enhancing effectiveness of production facilities. Competitive world made the companies to arise the quality of the product, lower price and better service and support with respect to safety and environment perspectives. Maintenance is one of the tools that can help the companies to reach their objectives. If CM can reduce the company’s costs, then the maintenance is not more introduced as a cost centre rather than a benefit centre. In this paper first of all the different types of condition monitoring systems are introduced. Secondly the influence of maintenance in cost effectiveness and the benefits (potential savings) gained by implementation of CM is discussed. Then the influence of implementing CM in the Zariniran Porcelain Industries is analyzed and its consequences is compared with the results before using CM to assess whether it is cost effective or not. Ultimately; statistics show decrease in the number of repairs and stoppages (planned or unplanned) and increase in the internal effectiveness of whole plant.
