Abstract— Linear motor feed drive systems are suitable for high-speed and high-precision motion, but in linear motors the
friction force provides stiffness and damping in the feed direction. In this study, a nonlinear function of position and
velocity is used as the nonlinear friction model that it makes difficulty for the conventional controller. To overcome this
drawback, a new design of Sugeno fuzzy logic controller based on cuckoo optimization algorithm (COA) is presented in this paper. Without the difficulty of trial and error and for a given trajectory, the parameters of Sugeno fuzzy logic controller (the
output signal, the centers and the widths of the Gaussian membership functions in inputs) are automatically achieved by
the COA for minimizing four different cost functions. The feasibility of the proposed COA technique has been simulated.
The results of different cost functions has been compared and confirmed the effectiveness of the proposed method.
