Abstract :
In this study the opinions of the mathematics teachers about the new curriculum is tried to be determined. The difficulties that teachers face during the application of the curriculum are investigated in detail. The sample of the study is 80 mathematics teachers working in the centers of Trabzon and Giresun provinces. 4 of these teachers are selected for interviews. The data collecting tools of the study are the 5-choice Likert-type questionnaire developed by Anılan and Sarıer (2008) and a semi-structured interview. The questionnaire data is presented by frequencies and percentiles of the answers. The interview data are analyzed descriptively. Analyzing the data, it was determined that the teachers believe that the activities in the curriculum increase the workload of teachers; the content is too condensed with respect to class hours; there are inconsistencies between the ÖSS (Turkish National Students Selection Examination for Universities) and the curriculum. It is concluded that teachers have difficulties in implementing the new curriculum and they partially apply the old curriculum. Additionally, it is revealed that teachers cannot get necessary support from the parents while they are applying the curriculum
