ARE LINGUISTICS AND GRAMMAR, AND LINGUISTS AND GRAMMARIANS OPPOSITE SIGNS?
Abstract :
Some scholars in linguistics field in Turkey accepts linguistics and grammar, and linguists and grammarians as completely opposite concepts and linguistics are suggested to be in nonscientific area. This paper evaluates conceptual values of linguistics and grammatical terms, and developmentprocesses of these two disciplines; and suggests that these disciplines are not opposite and grammar is a sub-branch of linguistics. Therefore, it stresses that language should be accepted as a developing and changing system with its all signs, and writing and speaking dimensions; and grammarians should be accepted as linguists as long as they examine the language scientifically.
