Abstract :
Due to its ideologies or priorities media, which has the power of makinp up public opinion and agenda-setting, often creates artificial agenda instead of the real one. For instance, American citizen Sarai Sierra, lost in 21.01.2013 in Ġstanbul, was nearly made the first topic of agenda by many media organizations due to political correctness until she was found muredered in 02.02.2013 and was sent to her country The United States in 08.02.2013. Assuming that everyday a lot of women get lost in Turkey but they are not made news as much as Sarai Sierra, questioning of the artificial agenda making up with loss of Sarai Siarra and media‟s role of and agenda-setting by making up public opinion has become necessary. Thus, in this study news with regard to loss of Sarai Siarra published between January 21, 2013 and February 8, 2013 in Cumhuriyet, Posta and Zaman Newspapers have been examined with Van Dijk‟s critical discourse analysis and discussed that how the media has built an artificial agenda with its discourse and ideology.
