Abstract :

Violence against women is a common social problem.Throughout the history our social structure such sayings as “the violence in the family, the violence against women, women murders, maltreatment, women suicides, custom and honour murders, annoyance and indecent assaults” over the family foundation,which is the most dynamic and the most principal institution and which comprises the basis of our society, have remained as a current issue for years debated in our country. The most common form is domestic violence against women and children. We often bear witness to the sad situation through both visual and print media path. In our country, when we look at the studies on the violence against women, we see that the violence against women is widespread and women are desperate due to the violence, the women who suffer from violence don‟t know how to get help and so on. On the other hand, the violence against women in the family isn‟t carried out only by the husband. It is seen that it is fulfilled violence by a father, a son, a brother, a mother- in-law, a sister-in-law a father-in-law, a brother-in-law and the other relatives as well. When this stiation is perceived as “family privacy”, “the interior problem of the family”, “a problem belonging to the family”, a lot of illegal, immoral, inhuman situations are covered up and the victim that is exposed to the violence goes on suffering. This wrong and traditionalist thought has brought about the fact that women submit to the violence in the family for years. Violence is a kind of demoliation that its consequences deeply affects the individual‟s physical or psychological health. Therefore, it must be given priority to the regulations of law, protecting, preventing and interfering work, the programmes which protect and support the victims that are exposed to violence, the increasing on the one hand social sensitiveness and social consciousness and bringing up more well-behaved, more conscientious people. In this field the cooperation of lots of foundations and institutions is necessary.
