Abstract :
In this study, it was aimed to make a comparison of the values to which students tend, according to the classifications of Rokeach and Schwartz. The study was carried out using the survey method with a total number of 1245 (614 boys and 631 girls) 5th grade students who were selected by random method in 8 schools in the central district of Ankara. An interview form was used to determine the values that students consider important and their answers were subjected to content analysis. Consequently, the values of “environmental cleanliness, respectfulness, helpfulness, cleanliness, love, being a good person, indulgence, abstaining from bad expressions, honesty, not spitting on grounds, being healthy, being sensitive to the environment, love of nature” were confirmed to be the values to which students tend considerably. It was determined that only 19 values amongst 36 values of Rokeach’s classification and only 25 values amongst 56 values of Schwartz’s classification were reflected, and the values (e.g. cleanliness and helpfulness) which cover the value types of universality, charitableness and safety were the ones mainly preferred.
