Examining Handwiriting Mistakes and Visual Perception Levels of Elementary School 1. Grade Students
Abstract :
The purpose of this survey type research was to examine writing mistakes and visual perception levels of elementary 1. grade students. The sample of this research was 185 first grade elementary school children. Writing errors were analysed after picking up Turkish Lesson notebooks of students who were supposed to write all the letters in the alphabet.Developmental Visual Perception Test 2 was used to analyse to determine the levels of visual perception. Not starting with capital letter in the head of the line, connecting the capital letters of F, N, P, V, T with the small letters coming after them, gaps in the words because of having small breaks during writing, incorrect handwiriting letters, incorrect writing of letters which are similar in both capital and small way, writing handwriting letters in normal way and ignoring guidelines were the most common mistakes at notebooks of children. There was no significant correlation between writing mistakes and gender and also kindergarden education background. Besides, there was no significant difference between overall visual perception, motor-independent visual perception and visual-motor perception levels and writing mistakes.
