Abstract
The purpose of this research is to identify the level of the usage of the social studies student workbooks and the difficulties that are faced during the usage of workbooks according to teachers’ views. The research was carried out with the schools in Rize city and its districts in 2010-2011 academic year. A questionnaire survey was conducted with 80 social studies teachers from 53 different schools. According to the research data there are some problems about using of the student workbooks during the social studies lessons and this books are not used according to the curriculum suggestions. The problems are caused by the quality and contents of workbooks, duration of lessons, students’ level and physical structures of the classrooms. Some further suggestions are done to use student workbooks more effectively.
