Attitudes Of Ethnic Identities From The Viewpoint Of Values
Abstract :
This study analyzes attitudes of different ethnic identities from ethnic, religious and socio-cultural aspects. Determining attitudes of ethnic identities particularly from the viewpoint of values will provide us with a clearer and comparative picture of preferences of Turkey’s rich mosaic. This is a quantitative study attempts to measure the attitudes of ethnic groups residing in Mardin Province. Validity and reliability analyses were conducted. SPSS 17.0 packet program was used to analyze data. Almost half of the participants were female and the others were male. Research results suggest that a significant difference was not detected among some of the values according to the participants’ ethnic origin, but some values were observed to have varied significantly. As a solution to diversities, devoting more attention to the studies investigating how multiculturalism is perceived in Turkey is of utmost importance to delineate how the general situation is. In this regard, some activities like projects, workshops and in-service training can be beneficial to increase individuals’ knowledge, skills and awareness of this issue.
